The membranes are a barrier used in the filtering system of water. The RO system is a way of filtering different molecules and minerals and salts from impure water and bringing it in drinkable form. The water purification is done by applying forceful pressure on the water on one side of the membrane filter which filters all kind of inorganic masses and purifies the water while passing through it, which on reaching the other side makes it pure and usable.
Life of the RO membrane:
The life of the membrane is usually about two years only. It may be a little less or more but that’s the average age. To make it last a bit longer the quantity of the suspended solids needs to be lessened. The lessening of the quantity makes less mass hit the membrane which does lesser damage and in turn the membrane takes more time to foul than usual. To do so a 5 micron carbon prefilter cartridge can be fit before the RO membrane.
This prefilter helps in keeping the bigger and the more damaging components away from the RO membrane and stopping it on its own. Therefore only the small and less harmful organic compounds pass through the prefilter to the RO membrane which completely filters the water. The water is made free of all kinds of bacteria and impure masses.
This is one way of making the life of a membrane grow and make it stay in place for a longer period of time. This also removes any doubt of using impure water before the two year warranty of the RO membrane which may get damaged before time.
Uses of the RO system:
- In the oil and petrochemical industry the cost is highly reduced when the hydrogen is separated in the oil purifying procedure.
- It reduces the cost of petroleum production as many important chemicals are captured in purifying the oil.
- When water is purified and chlorine is added as an additional purifier the membranes used in the RO system are resistant to the membrane and they pass through it easily.
- The RO system is also used in purifying the natural gas. It removes the extra carbon dioxide and other such masses to purify and make it into the form of compressed natural gas.
- The highly pure water improves the efficiency and increases energy out put by at least 10% in the power producing sector.
- The performance is consistent and which ever sector using is can easily rely on it.
- The RO system is used for not just purifying water but it purifies several other forms as well:
fossil fuel energy producers
oil and petrochemical industry
natural gas energy producers
pulp and paper manufacturing industry
water cleanup/purification applications
other applications
